Nightlife in Copenhagen changes fast and starts late, things don't really get going on Friday and Saturday night until after midnight.

In 'Nyhavn', right next to the water there is a very exciting café life, with a great atmosphere. There are cafes all the way to the end of the pier, and people sitting outside enjoying a cup of coffee or freshly drafted beer. Some people also sit there with their loved ones and enjoy a lovely sunset.

Christiania – a unique world

A world-famous example of the Dane’s progressive and free-spirited look on life, Christiania is a society within the city, a small utopia with room for everybody including life’s winners and losers. Christiania is unique, there’s no other community like it on earth. More than 1 million people visit the 'free city’ each year, making it one of the most visited ‘attractions’ in the country. The former military base now houses about 1,000 people; some live in imaginative houses based on dreams and built by themselves using old existing materials which were readily to hand whilst others have converted the former army buildings. Christiania is a green and car free zone with shops, nurseries, music venues, cafés and restaurants and an absolutely fantastic Christmas market. This green area is also home to social problems and conflicts but it has existed for almost 35 years and its further existence is guaranteed and protected by special legislation.

Active Copenhagen

Danish architects are some of the best in the world, and this is also clear to see when you take a look around in Copenhagen. Many of the buildings in Copenhagen are also rather old and are still there to tell the story of the fight between the many kings that wanted to rule Denmark. Many of the old buildings in Copenhagen are build as a status symbol of wealth and prosperity. Even in the old times Danish Architects were among some of the best in the world.

Gastronomy in Copenhagen

With 13 Michelin stars and 12 Michelin starred restaurants Copenhagen is in the top of the class and the best rewarded city in Scandinavia. What is also quite typical for the restaurants is that the chef is in the kitchen himself preparing the food for you. And with restaurant NOMA having been awarded the third best restaurant in the world, Copenhagen is the perfect destination for anyone looking for a gastronomic experience. As Denmark is an agricultural country the food in many of the restaurants are fresh and comes straight from the producer, the long traditions for growing and making food is part of what makes Copenhagen a wonderful place to eat out.

Tivoli – May the G-force be with you

The Tivoli gardens are definitely worth a visit. Tivoli dates back to 1874 where started out as a pantomime theatre. But today Tivoli is so much more. There are several rides like ‘The Deamon’, ‘The golden tower’ and ‘vertigo’ which can fulfil any daredevils desire for g-force. Apart from being a popular amusement park, Tivoli is a beautiful, romantic place decorated with flowers and lanterns in the trees. And Tivoli is great all year – you can enjoy open air concerts in the light summer nights and absorb the unique atmosphere at the Christmas market.
